Agape - A Jesus kinda Love

Agape - A Jesus kinda Love!

A Jesus kinda love - keep strong in your love. That ‘Agape’ kinda love that requires you to love others the way Jesus loved us. The kind of Agape that would make you help anyone who crosses your path.

To those of you who have heard this word ‘Agape’ before you would already know what kind of Love Jesus was talking about.

When it comes to love. The world sees it in many forms. Many people see love as a metaphor for getting their needs met. Its a love that says . ‘Do this for me. spoil me, my way and I will be very happy.’ This type of love can be a love that says you are to love me the way I want you to love me. Its a love that requires you to satisfy the other person at a personal level in order for them to feel loved..

The ‘Agape’ type of love is so different.

When Jesus was on Earth He encouraged people to love one another. His love came from a deep desire to have us show a total disregard for ourselves and an overwhelming sense that we need to forget about our own needs and look only at the needs of others. It wasn’t a love that said bow down to my every need. Jesus was talking about using your heart that is filled with love to help others in their time of need without wanting anything in return.

There have been many people who have devoted their lives to helping other people. Jesus, Mother Teresa, Frances of Assisi, are a few who dedicated their lives to helping people almost the entirety of their lives. Denying themselves of many things in the pursuit to follow in Jesus footsteps. Their reason mostly was to fulfil their calling and to fulfil Jesus request for us to help one another.

Lets take a look at what Jesus wanted us to do. What is biblically based and the correct way for us to fulfil our own calling?

If we take a look at the Book of Corinthians in Chapter 13 and verses 4 to 8. Paul in his writings to the Corinthian Church speaks of an Agape Love that transcends not just loving only your own family but everyone. Even those not of your own family or clan. In the writings about Pauls many discussions with the church leaders and people of Corinth. He expresses to everyone they should not be frivolous with their love. For love endures many things. Both emotional and tangible things that transpire from that love.

Corinthians Chapter 13 and verses 4-8 reads:

Love endures long and is patient - so when lovingly doing something together one should be patient with each other.

Love is never envious or jealous - when someone has been given gifts or a better way of life than yourself you must not be boiled over with

hatred and do something that will hurt the other person - their gifts are from God and not of ourselves

Love is not boastful or vainglorious and does not display itself haughtily - To be boastful is to brag about ones self and think that you are the

best. Vainglorious means to have an opinion that says your appearance or possessons are better than

anyone else’s. Haughtily means excessive pride, disdain, and a contemptuous attitude toward those

perceived as inferior.

It is not conceited, arrogant an imflated with pride) it is not rude and without manners and does not act unbecomingly (like someone who thinks they are better).

Love, Gods’ love in us, does not insist on it’s own rights or expect to have its own way. It is not self seeking (thinking of ways to please itself) It does not fret (worry about itself) or be resentful (hate). And it definitely doesn’t want revenge. Instead it forgives the suffering received.

Love does not rejoice at a wrong doing committed on someone else by another individual or groups bad behaviour. It rejoices when right, and truth prevails and bears up under anything and everything that comes it’s way.

Love is ever ready to believe the best of everyone. It’s hopes are endless under every situation and stays strong.

Love never fails (never becomes obsolete or ends).

If we look at the Agape Jesus kinda love. It is a love that is selfless, forever generous with its time and gift giving. It welcomes others into it’s fold and treats them with a greater respect. Love is forgiveness for anything and everything no matter the cost.

Quote by Country Grace Australia

So what does an Agape Jesus kinda love look like? Put simply. you have an inner strength it’s called Love. It waits until you are ready to release it. Then it surprises you when you are ready to use it. It comes back to you in the form of joy, a smile or a graceful acknowledgement that you have done something good for someone else’s benefit.

Use your Jesus kinda love to help others and enjoy what it is Jesus came to teach us.

Have a wonderfully blessed and loving day.
